“Cobots” as support in production

Once again, Prause Durotec is entering into a partnership with university research, this time as a member of the committee that is collaborating in an exciting robotics project with Professor Thomas Gries. At the Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University, research is conducted into how “low-cost collaborative robots” (referred to as “cobots”) are able to support the production of components made of FRP (fibre-reinforced plastic).

The research project focuses on teaching a cobot that imitates the movements of trained skilled workers, when draping fibre layers, by way of imitation learning. This relates mainly to the question of how humans and robots can share tasks efficiently and effectively. We are looking forward to contributing to the project as potential users of such production technologies. Of course, we will provide updates on interesting results here!
